RECONSTRUCTING WEST CLARE FAMILY HISTORIES USING DNA

Details
KDHS Lecture: Reconstructing West Clare Family Histories using DNA, by Paddy Waldron

In recent years, it has become possible and affordable to use DNA comparisons to break down brick walls in ancestral research. This talk will begin by briefly outlining the different inheritance paths of different components of DNA. Y-DNA, for example, can shed light on the origins of Clare surnames, while comparing autosomal DNA has helped members of the Irish diaspora from Sandy Hook to California to New Zealand to identify the precise townlands in West Clare from which their mystery ancestors emigrated.

Paddy Waldron wears many hats, including being PRO of KDHS and Ireland Reaching Out volunteer Parish Administrator for Moyarta civil parish, where his paternal grandmother was born in 1884. He has long been an avid genealogist, compiling West Clare family histories from an early age, and has been involved in genetic genealogy since 2013. He is also co-administrator of the Clare Roots project at FamilyTreeDNA.com.

There will be an opportunity to submit your own DNA for comparison after the lecture if you have not already done so. Prices start from USD79.

KDHS lectures are free to members, EUR5 for non-members. New members are welcome. The annual membership fee (July-June) is EUR20.
